In General

 

The undergraduate program of studies of the Department of Statistics has a similar structure to the programs of other European Universities, especially those with which  the Department of Statistics has bilateral co-operation agreements. The program is based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and lasts for four years (eight semesters). Every course has been assigned a specific number of credits as shown in the analytical Program of Studies. The degree contains compulsory courses, compulsory courses selected from a specific list and optional courses. Optional courses can be chosen either from those offered by the Department of Statistics or from other Departments of the University. Most courses available are organized as a mixture of lectures and laboratory classes. The total number of teaching per course varies from 2 to 5 hours per week.

 

Most courses are assessed by a two- or three-hour examination at the end of each semester. A small number of courses are assessed by examination as well as by project work.

 

Studies Program Requirements

To obtain a bachelor's degree, students must earn a total of 240 ECTS credits over four academic years.

Courses offered by the department are separated, based on context, in statistical – mathematical courses and non statistical – mathematical courses.

Courses are divided into 3 basic categories:

                11 compulsory courses

                6 fixed number optional courses (student must choose 4 of the following)

1.       Multivariate Statistical Analysis

2.       Theoretical Statistics

3.       Generalized Linear Models

4.       Time Series Analysis

5.       Stochastic Processes

6.       Introduction to Programming with R and S Plus

And optional courses, offered both by the Statistics Department, and the other Departments of the University.

 

During the first two semesters, students can enroll in courses whose corresponding ECTS’s do not exceed 32 per semester.

During the third and fourth semester, students can enroll in courses whose corresponding ECTS’s do not exceed 40 per semester.

In the fifth and sixth semester, students can enroll in courses whose corresponding ECTS’s do not exceed 48 per semester.

Through the seventh and eight semester, as well as beyond those, students can enroll in courses whose corresponding ECTS’s do not exceed 48 per semester, plus an additional course.
